2025 Fairbanks Garden Club Scholarship
Aleena Zaferacopoulos, of Dedham, received the 2025 Holly Dixon Memorial Scholarship from the Fairbanks Garden Club (FGC) at their Board Meeting held on June 3rd at the Endicott Estate.
Aleena is a member of the Class of 2025 at the Norfolk County Agricultural School (Norfolk Aggie). She was an active member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) during her high school years. In May 2024, she completed an internship with the Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, through the Aggie’s cooperative educational program. Aleena volunteered at the Endicott Greenhouse in Dedham from 2017 through 2025 and at the 2025 FGC Plant Sale. Aleena will be attending the University of New England (UNE) in Maine, pursuing a degree in Environmental Science. The FGC Educational Grant is awarded annually to a graduating senior from Dedham who plans to study plant science, horticulture, environmental science, or agriculture. Throughout The Fairbanks Garden Club's history, it has maintained a close relationship with the historic 1637 Fairbanks House Museum, the oldest timber-frame house in North America. Our garden club maintains perennial borders at the historic homestead and volunteers at the Fairbanks Family in America reunions each summer. In 1982, the club designed and documented a colonial herb garden at the house for which the club won an award from The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. In addition to maintaining gardens at the The Fairbanks House Museum, the club maintains two historical markers, decorates holiday wreaths for local institutions, makes donations to the Dedham Food Pantry, and holds an annual plant sale. The club meets the third Wednesday of the month from September through May, except for January. Unless otherwise noted, we meet at 11:30 a.m. for lunch at the town-owned Endicott Estate, 656 East Street, Dedham. Following lunch, we hold a business meeting and have either a speaker or a workshop. The Fairbanks Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. |

The Fairbanks House Museum
The Fairbanks House Museum in Dedham, MA is thought to be the oldest standing timber frame building in North America. Built circa 1637-1641 for Jonathan and Grace Fairebanke and their six children, it was home to eight generations of the Fairbanks family.

The Endicott Estate
Situated on 15 acres of rolling lawns surrounded by century old elms, spruce and weeping willow trees, the twenty-five room Estate boasts eleven fireplaces and provides a charm and elegance rarely found today.
An architectural gem, the Endicott Estate has the distinction of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places and plays a vital role in the local community and beyond as a place for year-round recreation, weddings, corporate and private events, art shows, car shows, summer concerts and movie filming. |
Dedham, MA
Dedham, Massachusetts is located southwest of Boston and was Settled in 1635 by people from Roxbury and Watertown. Dedham was incorporated in 1636. It became the county seat of Norfolk County when the county formed on March 26, 1793. When the Town was originally incorporated, the residents wanted to name it Contentment. The Massachusetts General Court overruled them and named the town after Dedham, Essex in England, where some of the original inhabitants were born.
